 HPC COMPRESSOR CONTROLLERS

Sigma Control

Based on an industrial PC with Intel processors, the SIGMA control is a compressor controller designed to optimise energy efficiently whilst significantly increasing operational reliability. The system can constantly log and process performance data and checking that the compressor precisely fulfils working requirements. It is easily adapted to changing operational conditions, even after installation, via programmed compressor control modes.

The provision of open system architecture and communication interfaces means that the SIGMA control can just as easily communicate with modern data systems as with older compressors that do not possess these controllers. These interfaces also provide remote access of current and stored data in the compressor via a modem and telephone network with huge potential benefits to the user.

Sigma Control Basic

The new "Sigma Control Basic" compressor controller is now fitted as standard to screw compressors in the 2.2 to 22 kilowatt power range. Developed in close co-operation with Siemens, this multi-function controller is specially designed for applications with lower air demand and enables flexible, efficient operation.

Smaller companies or users that employ the SX and SM series can take full advantage of the efficient energy saving SIGMA profile and also the benefits of a computer controlled compressor.

Sigma Air Manager

Modern compressed air systems are subject to a variety of requirements. It is not enough just to produce air in the specified quantity and quality; prime consideration must be given also to reliability and low energy consumption. The interaction between several compressors and air treatment components in a compressed air system must be coordinated, paying particular attention to the interplay of the compressors themselves. This is where the greatest energy savings can be made.

Simple base-load sequencers of conventional design are no longer capable of performing such complex tasks. This is where the capabilities of an intelligent master controller, such as the Sigma Air Manger, are needed that can not only select and switch compressors but can handle the more future-oriented tasks of compressed air management, cost management and communication.

CONTROLLERS

Sigma Control

The SIGMA control system has the flexibility to communicate with and constantly monitor the compressor, refrigerant dryer and condensate drains and can forward alarms to a central control system. Combined with the responsive SFC drive system, highly accurate sensors provide operational data to the SIGMA control precisely controlling system pressure to +/-0.1 bar, eliminating wasteful power consumption.

It is an intelligent system that monitors and automatically manages individual compressed air systems and enables the compressor to be remotely accessed via a modem. An interlink cable allows connection to another SIGMA Control unit for combined optimised compressor performance. For larger compressed air installations comprising several compressor units, the SIGMA Control is also designed to communicate with a SIGMA Air Manager control system which can simultaneously control up to 16 compressors.

SIGMA AIR MANAGER

Sigma Air Manager

To be able to control air systems reliably, a comprehensive exchange of data between the master controller and the internal compressor controller is required.

Unrivalled technical performance and large memory capacity are the main features of the industrial computer that is the heart of the SIGMA Air Manager. The Profibus DP interface (master) allows a single cable to quickly and efficiently exchange large amounts of data with the the SIGMA Control Profibus interface (slave).

The components of this automation system allow a far more sensitive, energy-saving and sure control of compressed air supply equipment than conventional base-load sequencers with their limited rates of data transfer and processing.

SIGMA CONTROL BASIC

Sigma Control

The new "Sigma Control Basic" compressor controller is now fitted as standard to screw compressors in the 2.2 to 22 kilowatt power range.

Developed in close cooperation with Siemens, this multi-function controller is specially designed for applications with lower air demand and enables flexible, efficient operation.

Just like the "Sigma Control", the "Sigma Control Basic" clearly indicates the operational status of the compressor using 3 highly visible traffic-light style LEDs: green indicates the system is operational, yellow signals a maintenance message or warning and red signals an alarm. More detailed information on compressor status is given in the multiple line alpha-numeric display which also shows a wide range of other data such as current pressure, temperature and airend outlet temperature.

An additional line is allocated for optionally displayed information, such as total operating hours (divided into on-load and off-load hours) and servicing intervals. Clearly marked navigation and input keys on the user interface are used to move around within the individual menu selections and to perform easy programming operations.

For enhanced flexibility and ease of operation, an optional plug-in memory module enables controller connection and alarm message transfer to a master compressor control. The “Sigma Control Basic” uses the proven dual mode control system and is able to manage and monitor compressor integrated refrigerant dryer packages.

Through introduction of the ‘Sigma Control Basic’, smaller enterprises can now benefit from the efficiency and reliability that modern control technology brings to compressed air production.
